GAME Grand Theft Auto IV

     -If anyone has ever played the GTA series, this one was definitely fixed up from its predecessors. They swapped out the ability to use the e-brake for realistic driving. This means no more sliding around the corners, while the mafia (or any other gang) shoots at your car. Now, the car slides all over the place which takes a lot more skill to drive.

     -Your character Niko, is fresh off the boat and goes to live with his cousin. They give you random jobs to do, like all the other GTA games.

     -The interesting thing with this game is that you have a cell phone this time that you can choose to answer unlike the other games. If you choose to answer the phone, you will most likely here your poor sappy cousin, whine and complain about something, and then you have to take the poor guy out for dinner, strip club, or some sort of game. If you tell him that you are too busy to go, you’ll lose respect from him. So you have to take the poor guy out. Then he calls you all the freakin’ time. Then there are more people that call you! You can shut off the phone, but some of the calls are for missions.

     -There are the usual things in the GTA world, stealing cars, copious amounts of guns and money, hideouts, flying helicopters, hookers, and random missions that you can acquire all of them. The car list was interesting this time, because a guy sends you a picture on your phone, with some sort of recognizable building in the background, and then you go to find it. 



Fun Factor

     -This game is a lot of fun if you like the GTA series. This game gives you all the abilities that you wish you had while you are driving. What about the guy that cut you off, why don’t I just smash in his car, or blow it up with a grenade. In real life there are legal implications...there are in the game as well, but meh. I can just bribe people and get away with it.

     -You can also steal police cars, look at who’s wanted, and what is going on in the city. So you can pick which mission you do, and go kick some ass...but then get in trouble yourself for shooting guns.

     You also get helicopters, but you aren’t allowed in the airport tarmac this time...if you do, you instantly get 4 stars. Then you have a real chase on your hands. Usually in the GTA series, if it’s one star or two stars you get just the police cars, three stars you get a helicopter, 4 the swat vans, 5 the FBI and 6 the army.

This time, it’s the same up until 5 stars. At this point, you get more cars and swat, and once you reach six, you get apache helicopters that attack you. NO TANKS this time. Boo!

     -This time instead of collecting 100 packages, you get to find 200 pigeons...and shoot them. I thought this would be fun, but it did get tedious after a while and I realized I don’t get prizes for going up increments of 10. I have to wait to get all 200 pigeons, then I get the worst prize of apache. I know what you are thinking...doesn’t he like apaches? No, for the simple fact that there is no targeting system, no missiles, and every idiot and their mom can shoot me down. In vice city, I was laughing with the helicopter, this one I will pass on quite easily. Apache? Oh no thanks, I’ll take my beat up blista compact any day thank you.    



Replay Value

     -The game was fun, and it had a few times where I had to make a choice to either follow somebody’s lead, or take my own path. Kill one guy to save another, or just kill everyone. It does change the game a bit, but you still get the same result in the end; Tons o cash with lots of birds to kill.

     -I haven’t really wanted to pick it up since I beat it except for the online play. Even then, the people on there have the ability to snipe me while I’m driving at them full speed.

     -There are a lot of mini-games and missions that you don’t have to complete, but they are a lot of fun. Like finding all the jumps, or flying your helicopter under the bridges in the city, and finishing all the races from the steroid user, who believes he is a winner, which is ironic because he’s not.

     -You can also go to the internet on the computer and attempt to have dates with random people.

     -You also have to take all your friends that you acquire in the game on dates, otherwise they won’t like you. My favourite was playing darts. Pool took too long, and going to the comedy shop was pretty good too. You get to watch Ricky Gervais perform stand up, along with some other good comedians.

     -The graphics are incredible in this game. If you have been to New York, you have been to Liberty City. For those of you who haven’t been to New York, play GTA IV, you’ve been to New York.

     -The online play is a lot of fun. It includes racing, GTA racing (where people wait around corners to shoot you and your car) cops and robbers, free for all, and so on. The amount of games and things that are online are unreal. It is a lot of fun to look at the skill level of the other players that you meet online.

     -The story is filled with twists and turns, and the choices you make in the game affect the story line. Even the people that you associate yourself with will have an effect on the story. It was really well written. A bit depressing though.

     -Niko Bellic is your guy now. He has come over from his home country to the land of freedom. Then he gets mixed up in the mob, because he kills a guy who is a douche to his cousin. So you become popular with a lot of people. Niko has some pretty funny lines, because he’s not from around here, he doesn’t understand some of the lingo.

     -Everything about Niko you can customize...well his clothes anyway. You have the choices of which weapons to use, what to wear, and which car to drive.

     -This is a 3rd person view, where you can see all 360 degrees of Niko action.

     -Very easy to use, although if you’ve never played a game, you might find difficult. You have the ability to auto lock on anyone, but it also gives you the option of aiming while if I want to go for the headshot while auto locked, I can. If I want to waste some ammo and open the enemies chest up like a cantaloupe, I can do that too...choices, choices.

     -The game is comprised of everything that you would want in a giant game. It has so many mini games that I couldn’t list them all in this section.



Gameplay Options

     - This is a 4 island land. I believe the term go nuts applies. As long as you stay on the four islands, or are around the four islands, you can go anywhere, and do anything...except you have to accept phone calls from your pansy cousin who’s whines about girls.



Progression of Difficulty

     -The game stays the same kind of difficulty throughout. Some missions do require body armour and a steady hand...oh wait, you can auto lock on anyone.  



Minor Details

     - Everything in the game is very seamless. If you have failed the mission, there is a cab waiting to take you back to where you started. You can also skip the cut scenes when you want. They’ve done this a few times, they know what they are doing.

     -You have your usual radio stations with the regulars on it. Poor old Lazlo is always getting the shaft in this one. There are also some really good hits on the stations, and some of the talk radio is good too.
